Wasting your youth

.Youth.

Don't Waste Your Youth Being Foolish, For When You Are Old You Will Realize What You Could've, Would've, And Should've Done....

A lot of times I think the youth of today often take it for granted, and by 'it' I mean being young.I know I sometimes do. We don't use our youth to our advantage. Instead we lump around the house, on the couch sitting there doing nothing. Or we abuse our bodies to no end. When I was younger I use to write down lists of 'accomplishments' that I thought I might get around to doing before I hit the big 2-0. I wanted to make a difference as a teen and not look back when I'm 30 and say I wish I took the opportunity to do something I wouldn't get an opportunity to do or take a trip I probably wouldn't get the opportunity to take otherwise. Its all about capturing today and seizing the moment/opportunity because being young is not a 'forever' kind of thing oh! We are young only ONE time, and ONE time only..why do you think our parents are always saying: ( well atleast mine lol)" hmmm if I was 25 again ehn?" they enjoyed being 25 because of all that came with it: independence, having fun with friends, trying new things, going to new places, and not having a worry or care in the world!! So if you want to model do it NOW, if you want to try out for American Idol do it NOW ( even if you don't win,at least you had the experience) if you want to travel to Spain,Egypt or Jamaica do it NOW, take advantage of being young and being single.

Ok, I'm done with that whole spiel...on to more important things...french! yea I just embarrazzed the sugar.honey.ice.tea out of myself in french class today...she gave us an oral quiz or something and she asked me in french, 'what do you wear to class'? or 'what are you wearing right now'?....omo, my mind just went BLANK. I was giggling like pee-wee herman or somebody...i couldnt remember most of the vocabulary!!I wanted to roll under a desk...

Things with Azumi are going pretty well. He's nice to look at but theres a lot more to him & I've noticed that he:

He smiles A LOT and he has dimples

His hair is wavy yet curly in some areas

Is really really intelligent & he can carry on a convo on just about anything

He looks at me, in that-sort-of-way..I catch him, but I pretend not to notice.

We are still on that 'friend' status...I don't feel ready to move it up a notch...I'm still trying to observe him and I don't want to be 'tied' down just yet ;-)

Anyway, i've completed most of my applications...just need about 2 more which are due next month and in June.I really hope I get accepted and most importantly I hope they give me money...I've heard that at Howard, some international students pay $7,000 per semester yet many citizens pay twice that amount or more than twice that amount...hmmm and I thought HBCUs were known to be cheap! I need to get into a school and get this thing going if know I want to go to Nigeria and help 'quell' the brain drain...

Y'know something that really gets on my nerves is Nigerians who have lived most of their lives in Nigeria, who all of sudden come to the US/Canada/Uk for maybe about a yr or 2 (maybe 3-4) and all of suddden feel too high & mighty to go back to Nigeria and live. They feel like it is impossible. They also feel as though they are mr/ms know-it-all-im-too-good-for-that-...arghhhh!!! Then they act like they cant even remember the little things about a country they left just ONLY a year ago.

How is the weather in Nigeria around June?

ANSWER:uuuhhh I don't know, its been long since I left!

How much is 50 naira?

ANSWER: I'm not sure nah, you now i left Naija almost 2 yrs ago

Where are you from in Nigeria?

ANSWER: ummm....u know like the south south area...no, actually I'm from the western part. (what?)

Its always funny to meet another Nigerian , they go from surprised to uninterested completely.

Me: where are you from?

Them: Nigeria, what about you?

Me: I'm Nigerian too! ( now, i'm getting excited)

Them: Oh really ( they don't seem too excited)

Them: thats nice to know, where are you from? ( still not very enthusiastic)

Me: *I just say any random state* (me, i no fit... so i don't even bother) then they proceed to ask me "where you born here or...? because you look like an akata"... I just answer yes and stop talking altogether...d  convo no dey interest me again sef.

Sometimes they don't even ask where I'm from, they just get aloof and they get kinda surprised and stop talking...kinda like they didn't expect another Nigerian to be around or like they didn't want any other person knowing that they are Nigerian..this happened one time at a party..they just say 'oh really', and move on lmao...not that they should be jumping up and down for joy, but y'know...

shouts out to neefemi blessings outlet  butterflies & myne and andrea!!!

and where is mouth of naija?!

HAPPY NEW MONTH!

I'm off this till next time! xo

btw is anyone going to the Wande Coal thingy in NYC( more specifically Brooklyn) next week ( 13th)??

fastfood &&valentine's day

Me and fastfood dont  mix from here on out. I wont go near it again, lai lai. I got food poisoning. I dont know, I guess it serves me right after years of my mother saying " all this fast food is not good o!!". My eye don clear, I wont touch it again walahi talahi. This past Friday was the worst day of my life. I was vomiting and in bed all day. I have learnt my lesson for sure!!

On a lighter note, my plans for Valentine's day is secured...provided that my brother cleans his nasty room...so after my brothers game on saturday  we're heading to his school  for that long weekend ( no school on the monday after..Presidents day) and I'm bringing lots of hand sanitizer and I will wear my flip flops all around his dorm/apt. and in the shower...him and his rmmates never clean so I gotta take xxxtraaaaa precautions lmao. It should be nice, his girlfriend is coming that weekend too, so we'll all go to dinner ( yea what a way to kill the romance, cuz we're tagging along!! ) and head home on monday afternoon/night. Our dear cousin isnt coming along for the weekend he says hes going to see a friend ( this "friend" is a male oo!) on Valentines day...hmmm when I'm thru with my detective work his eye will clear!!

I've started writing again. I've got toooo many topics to choose from. My cousin who lives in the UK started encouraging me to get back in it...(and hes a fantabulous writer) so I'm going to be writing my ideas down in a notebook. Topics I write about could be about everything from the discrepancies between the rich and the poor in Nigeria or the state of black America..who knows? But the topic I'm itching to write about is Nigeria's currant state. Nigeria is dying, it is hanging on by a thread and its leaders are trying to keep her  drugged up, & unconscious instead of  resuscitating her and making use of her resources to make her strong.

Just some thoughts

hmmm I dont really know what to post about.... No bad news, but no good news really

Exams are underway( congrats to anyone who just finished the semester, one more to go!)...just trying to plan my winter and spring break, and once again, I've changed everything around!! ughhh soo fustrating!! so now I'm going to London for winter break and Naija in the summer and I'll stay for a month or so ( summer school :-/ ) the rest of my summer will consist of classes and work...anyone know what to pack to naija if im going around june-ish? I was talking to a family friend of mine and she told me that when I go to naija, I will appreciate the US more because of the transportation and I will appreciate naija more because of the culture...i didnt really know what to make of that statement so i didnt say anything...we were also discussing how naija kids born here never really get the opportunity to go to Nigeria....anyway

for spring break I might just go to somewhere cold or I might just go do some work for HFH...dunno yet...everything is going pretty good for the most part, except me feeling like moving out of the country...lol...I always feel like that though so what else is new?!

Not really feeling the whole xmas spirit, I really wish I was spending xmas with a whole bunch of my family members ( most are all in Naija or UK,me sef ive lost track) Christmas in Naija would be out of this world; I can picture it now; food cookin, 1st cousins, distant cousins,aunties,uncles...the television on, everyone talking/discussing, and at the end of the night everyone would be all over the place, some sleeping on the couch, the floor or which ever spot they can find!! But now it seems like no one cares about stuff like that...they are off with their families doing their own thing... now I know what ppl mean when they say to enjoy the little time you have with family until you "grow up" (move out,get married and all that)hmm such is life...

I'm going to a naija xmas parry today ...hmm im sure all the parents will be saying something like this to my mother " i have a son oh" or " please oh, i want my son to stay connected to our culture, i will introduce him to ya daughtah"... its really funny sha... i get a kick out of it everytime...i dont blame them...

For any of you avid book readers,Authentic Beauty:The shaping of a set-apart young woman by Leslie Rudy is a good read...

I just found out that a boy I went to school with ( my freshman yr of college) just died, the happiest, funniest, cutest Bahamian guy you could ever meet. But he was battling his own demons...why are ppl like that the most miserable?

wishin u a wonderful weekend..& study hard for finals!

Overrated

Some things I feel are just overrated:

Designer clothing: hmmm Naija ppl love designer stuffs sha. Especially the guys...they must have a gushi belt to complete the outfit no matter what. But I feel like just because its designer doesnt really mean that the quality is better. Designer clothing does rip, however if you go into stores like tellos, rainbows and even forver21, then what you see is what you really get..hey!

but really--NOBODY CARES THAT YOU HAVE TRUE RELIGION JEANS...no one cares that you have 3 fendi purses or 10 pairs of chanel pumps....especially in America....and no one cares if you have an iphone a nokia e70 or a freakin blackberry!!.you know its really sick when ppl come into department stores ( in this case it was two naija women) asking for freakin true religion for their kids...like WOW are ur kids suppose to be better than the rest just because they have on true religion?

America/anywhere Abroad- The so called land of milk and honey is now dry. Milk ke?! Milk no dey again. Just because you are in America/UK or Canada, it doesnt mean you are better than those back home, it doesnt mean you are rich and it doesnt mean you will become a rapper and meet 50 cents and busta reems,it most certainly doesnt mean all ur problems are over, they hv just begun ohh and whats with some Nigerians who were born and raised in naija but feel as though they cant survive in Nigeria (even js for a visit) just because they are too used to America/UK or Canada? " Oh I cant eat the food", its too hot" " the water is dirty" before you came abroad nko? u survived shey? common gerrout!

Trends: ah ah, high waisted jeans today, tommorow na skinny leg. Trends are just a waste. Spending lots of money on trends are a waste too, thats what forever 21 is for. Its cheap, so when the trend is sooo "out" give it away or burn it...

Christmas- Why do we ( especially Americans) put so much emphasis on only buying presents for Christmas? Why do some parents buy their 4 kids, 10 presents each? what happened to donating and giving to those who are wayy less fortunate?

Holidays in Naij- What I mean by this is when ppl who are going to Nigeria from abroad go out and buy lots of expensive things to wear. I dont know if it is to show everyone that they are from somewhere abroad with a horrible yankee/jand/canadian accent to match or because they want to show the less fortunate how fortunate they are....

Revealing clothing- I mean common, leave something to the imagination, be a mystery or woreva...short skirts , other tight clothing and low cut tops are not cute. These types of clothing never fail u (especially at a club)if you are insecure and want to be looked at like a piece of meat...dont say i didnt warn u!

Clubs- I really dont like clubs. I went to one or maybe two and will prolly never go again. I guess I'm not really a club person. To me, clubbing is all about: men and women grinding their sweaty horny bodies against each other, people getting loud and drunk, hook ups/ one night stands....blah blah blah boring....anyone who can club every single weekend is a beast...na wa o

Cute guys- If you are cute and thats all...then what? berra have something to back that cuteness up....

blackberries/touch phones/ iphone- ahh its too much jare, bbbb pin, download this n that...that 1 na headache

Rappers- what do they really do anyway...I dont care if u call it " hating" I call it having an opinion, but seriously what do they do? hang around groupies, get on stage and spew nonsense hopping across the stage all outta breath, and go to clubs/parties, drop insane amounts of cash on everything from clothes, cars, houses and women...dont get me wrong there are some that dont do that, and there are some that run charities and what not, but this is what is portrayed in the media.

maybe you guys are askin, ah ah wetin b ha own? but hey i say what i feel jo!
